At St Luke’s Anglican Church in Diep River, Cape Town, we are passionate about nurturing the faith and potential of young people. One of our key ministries is Alpha Youth-an engaging, welcoming space where teenagers can explore life’s big questions, faith, and meaning in a fun and supportive environment.
What is Alpha Youth?
Alpha Youth is a dynamic, interactive series designed for young people (typically ages 13–18) to engage in open conversations about faith, life, and God. It’s part of the global Alpha movement, but tailored specifically for the questions, doubts, and energy of youth.
Each Alpha Youth session includes:
- Shared meals or snacks: Building friendships over food.
- Engaging videos: Short, creative films that spark curiosity and discussion.
- Open discussions: Safe, judgment-free spaces to share thoughts and questions.
- Fun activities: Games and icebreakers to keep things lively and build community.
Why Alpha Youth Matters
Today’s teenagers are navigating a rapidly changing world, often filled with uncertainty and pressure. Alpha Youth provides:
- A safe space to ask tough questions about life and faith.
- Authentic community where everyone is welcomed and valued.
- Opportunities for spiritual growth rooted in the teachings of Jesus and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
- Real friendships that go beyond the program.
At St Luke’s, we believe that young people aren’t just the future of the church-they are the church right now! Alpha Youth is one way we invest in their journey, helping them discover purpose, hope, and belonging.
When and Where Does Alpha Youth Meet?
- Friday Evenings: 7:00pm – 10:00pm at St Luke’s Church, Annandale Road, Diep River, Cape Town.
- Sunday Mornings: A youth discipleship group meets during the 9:30am service (this is a different group to Fridays, so you’re welcome to join either or both!).
Our sessions are open to all high schoolers (grades 8–12), whether you’re a regular churchgoer, new to faith, or just curious.
What Can You Expect?
- Warm Welcome: St Luke’s is known as a “warm, friendly church.” You’ll be greeted by leaders and peers who genuinely care.
- Diverse Community: Our youth come from various backgrounds, reflecting the rich diversity of Cape Town.
- Relevant Topics: We tackle real issues-identity, purpose, relationships, faith, and more.
- No Pressure: You’re free to share, listen, or just observe. No question is off-limits, and there’s no obligation to say or believe anything.
