St Luke’s Diep River is a vibrant, evangelical, charismatic Anglican church in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town. Established in 1897, we are part of the Parish of St John the Evangelist, Wynberg, and a proud member of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa.

We are a warm, friendly, and inclusive community of approximately 200 families and individuals, representing all age groups and a rich diversity of backgrounds. Whether you’re new to the area, exploring faith, or looking for a spiritual home, we invite you to journey with us.

At St Luke’s, our mission is to cultivate a loving church family where spiritual growth and outreach are shaped by Scripture and empowered by the Holy Spirit. We are committed to following Jesus and extending hope and inclusion to all.

We are a diverse, mixed-income community, including professionals, entrepreneurs, tradespeople, and those facing financial challenges. Our church is a place where everyone is welcome, regardless of background or circumstance.

Our Story

St Luke’s was founded to meet the needs of the Diep River farming community in the late 19th century. Our original church and school, designed by Herbert Baker, opened their doors in 1897. Over the decades, we have faced many challenges, including the forced removals of the apartheid era, but through faith and resilience, our church has continued to grow and serve.

Today, we celebrate a congregation that draws members from across Cape Town and beyond, including families who returned after being displaced and new members from many nations.

St Luke’s is a place to belong, grow, and serve. We invite you to join us for worship, connect with our ministries, and become part of our story as we seek to make a difference in Diep River and beyond.

Leadership

St Luke’s is led by a dedicated team of lay leaders, known as the Pastorate, and supported by our Associate Rector and staff. Our ministries are run by passionate volunteers and lay ministers who lead services, visit the sick, and support our church family.

Our Facilities

Our church property includes the original 1897 church building, classrooms for youth and children’s ministries, a community hall, and a cottage housing our church offices. We also have a rectory across the road for our clergy.
